This is a medium-high priced stereo (3D) viewer with huge diameter lenses that are focused for each eye by adjusting the screw-collars. It is a "steal the light" type of viewer in that it contains no internal light source.
In addition to the good large lenses, the other unusual quality to this stereo viewer is that it handles both "realist format" stereo slides (sometimes more generically called "41 x 101 mm" slides) as well as pairs of standard 2x2 slides. What's more it does this without having to "do" anything other than having the user picking the right slots to use! I did, however, find that the realist-format slides (using RBT brand mounts) were a little tricky to remove because it's pretty flush up against the front with only a small notch to grab the slide (or my fingers are too big). Although it does not have an adjustable interoccular (spacing between the lenses) as many viewers do, the large diameter of the lens makes up for this. In fact, theoretically the spacing of the lenses should be fixed to the same spacing as infinity-points in the two slide images (rather than lens spacing be related to eye spacing), but that's a technical point left to those who want to be pure. It doesn't have the solid build or the cobalt-glass diffuser of a de Wijs COMBY viewer, but it doesn't cost anywhere near as much either! This viewer is made in Holland like the less expensive pocket-viewers, and the U.S. distributor is 3D Concepts. |
